Why Father’s Day is Important – 5 Reasons Why
Father’s Day is important.
I would say, very important. One of the most important days of the year actually. I’m a tad biased, but my evidence will be laid out below inย a lighthearted diatribe…
IN LIST FORMAT! WOO!
#5 – Father’s Day Gifts

Exhibit A: How to get gifts on Father’s Day.
I put this as #5 because although its kinda superficial, getting a gift never hurt anyone (unless it was like drugs or something that made them a worse person overall). Surprising a Dad with some Star Wars T-Shirts (which I got, freaking awesome) or some golf clubs (hopefully my wife reads this for next year ๐ )never hurts. Hell, even something as small as a coffee made can go a long way to say “I love you, Happy Father’s Day”.
#4 – A time to celebrate.

Exhibit B: I don’t want to trigger my Vegan Audience. ๐
Break out the BBQ or head to the park, it’s time to party! Yes, today is a great way to bring together your close friends and family and celebrate. What better way to have a day like this than some beer, some steak on the grill, and your loved ones around you. As a dad, just picturing that makes me well up inside. JUDGE ME IF YOU WILL BUT I FEEL TOO OK!!!
#3 – You can Plan (yes, you can plan any day of the year, but this day is arguably MORE important for Fathers).

As mentioned below in #1, today is a time to inflect. As such, it’s a perfect opportunity for Dad’s to take an hour or so to plan for the near, far, and distant future. Break out some pen and paper, open a spreadsheet on the computer, or write on the sidewalk in chalk. Either way, get a plan together for your family, and execute!
They’re counting on you.
#2 – You can reach out to Fathers you’ve lost touch with and say what’s up without seeming desperate for their affection.

Have a friend you haven’t talked to in 3 years but want to get back in touch with? Did he just have a baby?! Perfect! Shoot him a “Happy Fathers Day!” in his messenger, via text, or on twitter and reignite that friendship! Yeah! Relationships! More about this in #1.
#1 – It gives you a day to inflect on how you’re doing as a father, or, allows you to take stock in how you’re treating the fathers in your life.

This is the main reason why Father’s Day is so important.
For Fathers, this Sunday is a good day to really check in with yourself and see how you’re doing. Physically, emotionally, spiritually, and most importantly how your relationships with those you care about/forย are developing -or- declining.
Another reason this day is very important: it is perfectly positioned within the year, around the half way mark. This is also a good time for us as fathers to self-evaluate. Have I hit those goals I said I would in January yet? Am I off the mark? How far? How much more do I need to really push myself to break through the goals I’ve defined? Am I maintaining my health, wealth, and relationships with those I care about?
For non-fathers, it allows people to take a day to look around them, spot out the various male role models in their lives, and inventory out exactly how their relationship is panning out with said Father/Father Figure. Is there a father out there to whom you need to say sorry? Does a Father owe you $5? Today’s the day to follow up, without looking like a bother. ๐
